Unique driftwood findings, pinecones, and empty shell casings that match the rifle stock were used in the construction of the vintage gun stock lamp. All of these unusual natural treasures were gathered while my son and I were on different hikes. At the very bottom of a waterfall, the base was found washed up. "This is the piece that will make you famous, mom," my son said after picking it up. The most valuable moment was that particular one. He believes in me so much that it genuinely inspires me to believe in myself. For over two years, the flat, smoothed-out piece of wood sat upright in my art room. I thought it would be awesome to combine some vintage gunstocks with various driftwood to make the most charming rustic lamp. The use of a yellow birch tree gives it a nice traditional appeal as found in other rustic decor. With its assortment of lovely memories of a mother and child exploring the outdoors together, the lamp represents the gathering of components. If the wood had never met the rushing waters of rivers and waterfalls, it would never have become a masterpiece. If I was never blessed with a son, I would have never become who I am today. Think unity in nature as well as in connections with those we love. The lamp defines the very relationships that bring to fruition our happiest memories.
Multiple layers of epoxy have been hand painted onto every surface of this lamp. The lamp took 11 months to complete. There was no rush in the creation process because it was intentionally designed to reflect the above story.
