Why does art inspire you?

"Art is inspiring because it can provide us with imaginative links to parts of ourselves which might otherwise be inaccessible. All serious art, art which has content under its surface, is nothing more or less than a reflective impression of the soul who experiences it." (unknown author)

Art has been long recognized as something that inspires, motivates, raises awareness for a cause, and has even been known to build communities. When you receive one of my artistic creations how do you feel? Personally, when I support other artisans I feel truly inspired.

My personal revelation of art inspiring me-

Recently I was gifted hand crafted mugs from my favorite small business and they were quite an inspiration. I felt connected to the maker in a way that normal socializing just couldn't compare. I felt proud of her for expressing her talents and allowing that process to guide her on a path of success and self expression. I felt so inspired to create that I started working on a beach themed mirror and the ideas poured out like the river flowing from the top of a waterfall. I literally couldn't stop. Look up the mirror called washed up for reference. (I am still creating this as of December 27,2021 so be on the lookout for it if your reading this during this time) Hours went by and this mirror transformed into a masterpiece of sand, shells, driftwood, emotion, expression, and so much more. I could envision the feeling of sitting alongside the ocean, listening to the waves and collecting the washed up pieces that make the ocean what it is. Much like washed up emotions that when put in order they create something beautiful. Do you imagine the feelings of the artist when you receive their work? You just can't put a price on that feeling of owning or creating art. If I feel connected to or nostalgic with your creativity then whatever the price tag is, it's worth it. The way you value your own work speaks volumes.

Is there a movement behind my work?

Yes, in fact there are a few.

Growing up on a dead end dirt road surrounded by the wilderness I was always outside. I am thankful to have grown up in the time when technology had yet to consume the minds of youth. The endless exploration and creativity as well as love for nature is deeply engrained in me. When you look at my work, I hope to encourage you to explore or remember your outdoor adventures. I hope that you connect with nature in a way that heals your soul; go grab some dirt it literally increases serotonin and makes you feel good! When you take one of my DIY classes I encourage you to allow creativity to drive your emotional healing. I especially encourage children to cope using creativity. Coping, something not taught in schools but I believe should be, is so important especially during these times. I also hope to inspire others who have been victims of domestic violence to break the cycle and explore their talents while they learn their true value and self- love. This is exactly what I've done and how I lived through breaking the cycle of entertaining abusive people. May my work inspire, encourage, and uplift.

Why it's so easy to value others work-

As an artist myself the pricing of my work was not easy. I had to compare my tags to the creations of other quality craftsman. I experienced the motive and attention to detail of my competition...heck I had to find competition. This was the biggest challenge because there was only a few rustic décor makers who made truly unique work expanding beyond the sticks and bark of conventional Adirondack décor. Even in finding others, I never saw anything like mine. That's what the OOAK stands for by the way One Of A Kind. I was torn between negative comments from stores and incredibly encouraging comments from long time fans of rustic art. I had a store say "you value your work too much and everyone likes to say they have the best but in reality it's not that special" Umm for one that was rude, demeaning and absolutely not cool. Two, BYEEEEEE. Everyone is not meant for me and that's ok. Then I got the most remarkable comments from customers, dozens of them. People saying that my work is the "best they have ever seen", "my prices were too low for the quality", "my work is the best since the beginning of rustic furniture makers", and so on and so forth. So in a rustic décor movement I truly didn't have competition; let's face it, no one really wants to put forth the time it takes to place every intricate detail of pinecone, nuts, acorns, moss, stones, seashells...no one but me. I find it incredibly soothing and it helps me tune into my highest form of self. While creating, I have done the most healing. I value my work and I price it accordingly and still make it affordable for those who appreciate quality craftmanship. This is why my inventory sells out within a year of making it; why I have to continue making new things or I would have nothing left in a years time.

I hope to inspire you to create, to heal, to break toxic cycles, to explore the earth, to appreciate yourself and others.

From my creativity to yours,

Tricia
